Uelen, in Chukchi Увэлен, means black, thawed patch which fits well to the color of Uelen’s coat. It is also the name of the easternmost settlement in Russia and Eurasia, near Cape Dezhnev where the Bering Sea meets the Chukchi Sea. We have fond memories of our visit to Uelen by dogteam during the 2014 Nadezhda Hope Race. A truly beautiful and special place. Uelen is a very reliable part of our team, fond to lead or go just about anywhere. She never makes any fuzz and is a pleasure to have in the kennel. A funny girl who likes to be scratched on her back.

Uelen has her sisters Nadezhda Hope, Silver Gulch and brother Grizzly in our kennel and Bering at Shaytaan Siberian Huskies in Whitehorse.

Her mother Najak finished among others both the 2014 and 2015 Iditarod with our team and her handsome father Shaytaan’s Psycho Killer (Psycho) finished the Yukon Quest as well as the Iditarod multiple times and was a great leader. He was also part of the first team of Siberian Huskies to finish both the Yukon Quest and Iditarod in one season with musher Rob Cooke.
