Back to the roots!

  |   Everyday life, Racing   |   No comment

With the Iditarod behind us we’re ready for new adventures. Together with one team of dogs we will leave for Chukotka, Russia from Nome already next week-end in order to participate in the Nadezhda-Hope race as Guest musher for Team Racing Beringia (check out the entire team here)!

We are thrilled and excited to be able to be part of this race, and get to visit Chukotka by dogteam. It is a unique opportunity to live and experience the culture in Chukotka and to meet locals and their dogteams, the very ancestors of our dogs! The whole trip is much more than a race. We will run by dogteam two days (~200km) to get to the race start, and about the same to reach our plane back home after crossing the finish line. The race will take us through villages where we stop overnight. As of now the race route will be as listed below, although it may change due to weather conditions:

Lorino – Yanrakynnot (97 km) – Novo Chaplino (56km) – Provideniya (29 km) – Yanrakynnot (85km) – Lavrentiya (137 km) – Uelen (120 km) – Inchoun (32 km) – Lavrentiya (96km)

The mapshown is from the 2012 race. This year, the race start will be in Lorino, and the finish as in 2012 in Lavrentiya.

We won’t be able to come with too many updates from the race itself but will keep you updated as long as coverage allows, as well as come with a race report and pictures afterwards! Check out the Visit Chukotka page for more information/pictures about the region!
